AN EVENT TO BENEFIT COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS FUND!

About the Community Champions Fund

Edmund Burke, the Irish Political Philosopher once said: ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.’ Over the past five years, we have come to know that the good men of our community are not likely “to do nothing” when faced with troubling circumstances.
Selecting a beneficiary of the event is the first and often the most difficult of the many decisions to be made. Each year, we are asked to consider multiple organizations that could share the proceeds of this truly community effort to put right the hardships that threaten our way of life in central Indiana. It is in this spirit that we are moving the event in a direction that will allow us to help innumerable organizations work to make our community a better place for all.
Violence has no bias; with victims of every race and ethnicity, they are rich and poor, young and old, well known and unknown. They are, most importantly, people whom others love and depend upon. No one – no matter who he or she is or where he or she lives – can be certain they are safe from senseless acts of violence. Whenever we suffer the unnecessary loss of life – whether it is caused by a stranger or a family member, by a single person or a group, in cold blood or in passion, in an act of violence or the response to one – our whole community is dishonored and devalued.
Given that each morning’s newspaper upholds my fear that there is no foreseeable end to the violence that tears at the fabric of our way of life, we feel it is time to put this powerful event to use as we strive to eliminate those things that threaten our community today and for future generations.
This September 14th, “Just Desserts” will come together to raise money for the “Community Champions Fund”. After the event, this fund will provide support to organizations within the community to provide programming, services, and activities that support the prevention of violence as well as the protection and care of victims of violence. “Community Champions Fund” grants will provide resources to not-for-profits, civic, business, and government organizations to support the development and delivery of innovative solutions, otherwise unavailable in our community, designed to make our community a safer place to live, work, and play. It is our greatest hope that those who have supported us in the past will continue and that others will join us in our effort to brighten the future of our community.
